Welcome to the Community Health Program at Tufts University
|
The Community Health Program is one of the oldest multidisciplinary programs within the university. Since 1975 CHP has provided students with a diverse, integrative experience in learning. The program's relatively small size encourages a sense of community among fellow students, faculty, and staff. As a multidisciplinary program, CHP touches on diverse aspects of health and society, and encourages the exploration of health issues from a variety of perspectives.

What CH Students Have to Say About the Program |
 |
Adam, CH
alum:
"The Community Health Program has truly been the most unique part of my Tufts undergraduate education. Academically, CHP has provided me with the perfect complement to my political science training. Through Community Health, I have been able to explore the contexts in which our health policies are formulated and how they affect the lives of individuals. My internship experience at the Family Advocacy Program was a life-changing experience and has influenced my professional goals. The CHP itself has been a great academic home for my time here. The faculty and staff deeply care about students' personal and academic growth and truly try to prepare students to be leaders, handling the immense challenges in health and health care in society."

Sarah, CH
alum:
“In the community health program, you can take any other academic interest and view it through the scope of health. Those interested in children and child health can specialize and take classes pertaining to that subject, while those interested in international studies can take a class in world-wide humanitarian aid, and the philosophers in the group can learn about ethics and policy in the health field. The community health major is flexible, allowing students to take many different classes from a variety of fields, and to choose an internship based on their own interests. The CH department is extremely organized and consistently promotes events for students on and off campus, such as graduate school forums, job opportunities, or various relevant speakers. For me, the community health classes offer a practical, real-life piece to my education. I feel very prepared to graduate, because I know I have specialized knowledge about an enormous and growing field.”

Laura, ‘03:
Along with half my freshman class I thought medicine was my professional future. However, after researching marketing strategies in the tobacco industry targeting women and studying racial disparities in health care, I quickly shed my narrow view of health. I am determined to find a career that will allow me to apply what I learned in the CHP - a blend of health, policy, and curiosity |
