Cognitive Studies Graduate Programs
At this time the Center for Cognitive Studies is purely a research unit of Tufts University,
offering no courses or degrees of its own,
but providing an administrative home for various research projects in cognitive
studies undertaken by the director and his associates.
Graduate study in philosophy at Tufts is limited to the MA program
Doctoral programs are offered in Psychology and Computer
Science, each of which include research in cognitive science. Tufts does offer a
"one-of-a-kind" PhD program, which would permit an individual to design a PhD in
cognitive science, but this is almost never an advisable course to pursue. Most
candidates wanting to work specifically in cognitive science will be much better
off in one of the excellent cognitive science programs at other universities,
such as those at (in alphabetical order):

This is not a complete list, nor does it imply any sort of ranking.
Some of the programs may only offer Master's or combined degrees.
The Center for Cognitive Studies does offer a Research Associate position
(click here for the most recent position description),
for advanced graduate students or post-docs.
In the past this has been used on occasion to permit Prof. Dennett to serve on the
dissertation committee of a doctoral candidate at another university, but
obviously no advance arrangements can be made, since competition for the
Research Associate position is stiff, and the requirements shift.
