CMS Internships

Communications and Media Studies grants pass/fail credit for internships in communications organizations (television and radio stations, newspapers and magazines, advertising and public relations agencies, publishing houses, graphic and web design, multimedia, photography, and film production companies). Internships are available during both academic semesters as well as during the summer months. During the fall and spring semesters students intern a minimum of 150 hours, write four short papers, and meet regularly with the faculty advisor. In the summer they can also choose a half-credit option, for which they intern at least 75 hours.

Summer internships in recent years have included The Late Show with David Letterman, Dateline NBC, CBS-TV, WGBH-TV, National Public Radio, and The Atlantic Monthly.

In addition to learning how the media industry operates and influences the public, students who intern also learn about interpersonal dynamics, improve verbal and written communication skills, and establish contacts with professionals. Occasionally, students are able to turn internships into job placements after graduation. All students gain a greater degree of self confidence, increase their knowledge of media as a possible career path, and make valuable contacts. To find an internship, students can utilize the CMS internship binders at 95 Talbot Ave., as well as Tufts Career Connect and the Career Services Website . Some students also find the Tufts Career Network useful for networking with alumni about internships and job advice.
