Concordia Foundation Fellowship for Summer Excavation/Research
The Concordia Foundation Fellowship for Summer Excavation/Research is funded by an endowment from the Concordia Foundation and provides support for graduate students in Classics and Classical Archaeology at Tufts University who are pursuing research or are participating in an archaeological excavation  during the summer.  The application process is competitive and gives preference to those students who have not previously received funding and who are in good academic standing.

Proposals should include a description of the proposed summer project and its relevance to your work as an archaeologist or classicist as well as details on what program you are applying to, what area of Classics or Archaeology you will be working in, and how the experience will benefit your Masters work. Applicants should also include projected expenses for the project/excavation.

Please click here to download the application form.  Before completing the form, please review the guidelines below.

GUIDELINES
Graduate Student Travel funded by the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences & the Graduate Student Council

Travel reimbursement requests are granted from both the Graduate School and GSC on a first-come, first-served basis and thus students are encouraged to apply early. (One award per student per fiscal year [July 1-June 30]) As long as funds are available grants will be awarded to those who meet the criteria below and who have followed the procedures as stated in these "Guidelines". All awards are made as a reimbursement (travel advances are not permitted) and no reimbursements will be made without approval prior to travel.

Travel reimbursement requests can be made for the following:
1. Travel for doctoral degree candidates who wish to attend professional meetings to deliver their research, especially students who are invited to conferences
2. Travel for masters candidates who wish to attend professional meetings to deliver their research, especially students who are invited to conferences
3. Travel for the purpose of collecting dissertation-related data at laboratories (e.g., running experiments at national facilities) or doing research at specialized libraries
4. Travel for students to attend professional meetings from which they believe they will derive significant educational benefit by attending the meeting, even though they may not be presenting work of their own
5. Travel for special cases will also be considered as long as funds are available

PROCEDURES
A.  Complete a travel reimbursement request form available by clicking here or see David Proctor in the Classics Department office.
    1. Submit form to David Proctor for appropriate signatures.   In special cases, a brief supporting letter from the department may be required.
    2. Some documentation should accompany the request, i.e.: brief cover letter stating purpose and value of the travel; copy of cover page or registration form for the meeting--something that indicates the dates, location, and anticipated expenses of the conference.
    3. Completed forms should be returned to the Graduate School office at least 2 weeks prior to departure.
B. The request will be reviewed by the Graduate School and the Graduate Student Council and both the student and the department will be notified when the request is approved.
C. Once approved, a University "Travel Authorization...." form will be generated and sent to the student for completion.
D. When the student has returned, he or she should complete the envelope portion of the "... expense" form, enclosing original receipts for the amount granted and return it to the Graduate School office. This should be done within a month of the student's return and all forms must be returned no later than three weeks before the end of the academic year. If student attended a conference, a registration receipt should be included. Also, if air travel is involved, the "passenger receipt" portion of the ticket is required.
E. The expense form will be processed through the accounting office and a check mailed directly to the student.
F. It also helpful if the Dean's office is informed in advance when several students from one department are traveling together to the same conference.
