We develop analytical instruments, sampling tools, and data analysis software to detect and quantify hazardous chemicals in the environment and in the food we eat and drink. Our technology has been used to profile hazardous waste sites contaminated by crude oil and coal tar as well as in fruits, vegetables, botanicals and their essential oils. In addition, pilot projects are ensuing to test new crop-based "green chemistry" for the cleanup of hazardous waste sites, as degreasing agents to dissolve fat and grease for the food industry and in wastewater treatment systems, as well as coastal restorations.
