Undergraduate Education: Research
Tufts’ Summer Scholars
Program has been implemented to further encourage undergraduate research.
The program supplies a summer stipend to students for staying at Tufts to pursue
research. Research areas for the department can be found under
Faculty and Staff.
The research experience serves several purposes. As a form of employment, the
experience builds organizational, accountability, and
time management skills that are attractive to future employers. In
learning about the practice of research, the experience also prepares
undergraduates for graduate research (should they choose to pursue advanced education). In this regard, the
department’s willingness to accommodate undergraduate research is truly
beneficial since top graduate programs desire and closely evaluate undergraduate
research experience. Finally, as an educational tool, undergraduate research
introduces students to advanced problem solving and provides an intellectual
experience above and beyond the standard course-based education.
