Professor Georgakis Elected IFAC Fellow
Professor Christos Georgakis was recently elected a fellow of the International Federation of
Automatic Control (IFAC). The IFAC Fellow Award is given to persons who have made outstanding
and extraordinary contributions in the field of interest of IFAC, in the role of Engineer/Scientist,
Technical Leader, or Educator.
Christos, the past chair of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Tufts
University and the Bernard M. Gordon Senior Faculty Fellow in Systems Engineering, is only
the second U.S. Chemical Engineer to be honored with this distinction and among only fifteen
selected worldwide this year. Georgakis was chosen for this honor "for seminal methodological
contributions to chemical process control and for fostering highly productive Industry/University
research collaborations." Professor Georgakis is also a Fellow of the American Institute of
Chemical Engineers and the American Association of the Advancement of Science. He has held
endowed Professorships at the Polytechnic University, Lehigh University and MIT.
