Graduate Students Honored at the Annual AIChE National Meeting in Salt Lake City
Weiling Deng, a 5th year Ph.D. student in Professor Flytzani-Stephanopoulos's
catalysis group, was chosen by AIChE's Catalysis and Reaction Engineering
Division to receive a Travel Award to present her work on "Reaction-Relevant
Gold Structures for Low Temperature Water-Gas Shift Catalysis." Weiling was
recognized for her achievement in graduate research at the CRE division's dinner
during the annual AIChE meeting in Salt Lake City in November 4-9, 2007.
Foteini Makrydaki, a 3rd year Ph.D. student in Professor Georgakis' group, was
awarded Honorable Mention in the Computing and Systems Technology (CAST)
Director's Best Paper Award Competition. Foteini presented the paper
"Multivariate Linear Regression as a Tool in Modeling the Kinetics of Complex
Chemical Reactions" at the Poster Session of the CAST Division during the annual
AIChE meeting in Salt Lake City in November 4-9, 2007. The paper was selected
among 50 papers in the session by majority vote of CAST Directors. Foteini's
research addresses the problem of kinetic modeling of systems that convolute
through unknown complex reaction networks when there is no knowledge available
concerning the elementary steps and the kinetic or equilibrium constants.
