Public Service:
Skills for Success
The Boston School of Occupational Therapy educates students to work with people to develop the skills needed to lead successful lives within the context of society and their own cultures. Occupational Therapy enables people to do what they find meaningful with the ultimate goal being to improve health, well being, and quality of life.
Occupational Therapists help people of all ages and capabilities improve their ability to meet the expectations of their life roles, whether that be as a student, parent, workers, friend, citizen, or member of any community or social group. Occupational Therapists work in settings such as; early intervention programs, schools, assisted living facilities, sheltered workshops, hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, correctional facilities, home care, and wellness or fitness centers.
The process of occupational therapy involves working together to identify problems and areas of concern in order to develop successful strategies to meet the challenges faced by individuals in their daily lives. Individual needs vary greatly. For one person it may be figuring out how to pay the bills on time. For someone else, it may be learning how to participate in a group activity such as a class, meeting, or social gathering. For others it may be finding ways to care for themselves or others to function in the work environment. Therefore, as part of the academic process of learning to become occupational therapists, Tufts Department of Occupational Therapy has established community partnerships with local agencies to facilitate our students
learning through service.
