FAQ's for Entry Level Master's
Q:
How many people enroll in the program each year? How many people graduate from the
program each year? What is the attrition rate?
A: Average class size over the last several years has been
30-35 students. Enrollment, (includes students in 1st year, 2nd year,
and Level II FW stages of the entry-level program) graduation (includes recipients of entry-level and post-professional master's degrees),
and attrition figures for the last three years are below.

Q: How do Tufts graduates perform on the
NBCOT Certification Exam?
A: Very well!
The total number of graduates who passed the certification exam as new graduate test takers from January, 2004 – June, 2007 was 98. This includes 95 first time and 3 repeat takers for a 98% pass rate. During that time period, the program had 100 exam eligible graduates.
Q: What are the prerequisites for admission to the program?
A: There are a total of 5 prerequisite courses which must be passes with a grade
of B or better and taken at an accredited college or university. Candidates may
apply and be accepted while completing the prerequisites. However, all
prerequisites must be successfully completed before matriculation.
- Two courses in social sciences; i.e. anthropology,
psychology, sociology, human development
- Two courses in the Biological Sciences, i.e. Biology, Anatomy, Physiology
- One course in introductory statistics
Q: Do I need volunteer experience?
A: Yes, but there is no specific requirement for the number of hours.
Q: How many candidates apply and how many are accepted?
A: The program is competitive. Each candidate is evaluated on an individual
basis.
Q: What GRE scores are required for admission and which weigh more heavily?
A: All scores are looked at. No preference is given to any one score. There is
no cutoff. In general, those accepted score at least 500 or higher.
Q: What is the ratio of science majors accepted versus non-science majors
accepted?
A: An entering class usually consists of 1/3 science majors, 1/3
psychology/sociology majors, and 1/3 mixed majors.
Q: What are the policies concerning visiting BSOT; i.e. interviews,
appointments, information sessions?
A: Information (brochure and application materials) will be sent upon request by
calling the department at (617) 627-5720. BSOT conducts info sessions throughout
the year. Potential candidates should
view our Information Session schedule or call for dates and
times. Faculty members are present to answer any and all questions. Interviews
are not required nor are they necessary. Occasionally, candidates may want to
visit in person and observe a class. This can be done with the permission of the
instructor and is arranged by calling the department.
Q: How may the statistics prerequisite be fulfilled?
A: Any general course in statistics taken at an accredited college or university
will fulfill this requirement.
Q: Does not fulfilling prerequisites endanger financial aid?
A: A student may not matriculate in the degree program until all prerequisites
are successfully completed.
