Monica A. Pessina, PhD, MEd., OTR

Dr. Pessina received her B.S. in Occupational therapy from Boston University, followed by a Master's in Education from Northeastern University and a Ph.D. from Boston University School of Medicine. In addition to her affiliation with Tufts , Dr. Pessina currently teaches in the Gross Anatomy course at Sargent College and is a full-time faculty member at Boston University School of Medicine in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology. She has extensive clinical experience in all aspects of acute care and specializes in the treatment of patients with burns and upper extremity injuries. She served for two years as the Director of Rehabilitation at Shriners Burns Institute and currently continues to work as an occupational therapist at Massachusetts General Hospital where, in addition to a clinical role, she is a research consultant. She has authored several publications including a chapter in the recent edition of Occupational Therapy for Physical Dysfunction (Trombly/Radomski, Eds). She is also member of her local American's with Disabilities Act Committee. Her research area of interest is in the design and analysis of outcome based studies in the acute care setting, and the quantitative analysis of hand function after injury.
