Mary Beth Kadlec, ScD, OTR/L
Boston University, Lecturer
Dr. Kadlec will be teaching courses as part-time lecturer. She has practiced
occupational therapy for 25 years with a focus on young children and their
families receiving services through early intervention, early childhood
education, and outpatient rehabilitation programs. Currently, she is the Project
Manager for the Child and Family Project which is part of the STAART (Studies to
Advance Autism Research and Treatment) Center at Boston University School of
Medicine. The Child and Family Project is a longitudinal study of more than 200
toddlers with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) which is examining the symptoms
and the developmental patterns of young children with ASD as well as family
well-being and parental coping. Mary Beths interest in research is to better
understand the process by which children are guided to participate within their
family routines, educational settings, and community activities in order to
inform clinical practice. She has developed methodologies to identify
qualitative and quantitative aspects of parent-child interactions during daily
activities which has been used with parents and their young children born very
low birthweight with and without white matter disease as well as parents and
their children with ASD. She received her MS in OT and ScD in Therapeutic
Studies from Boston University
