I became a faculty member at Tufts University -- Department of Occupational
Therapy in 2003. I teach doctoral
proseminars and courses in outcomes measurement and research methods. My primary
research examines activity participation ("occupations") of children and youth
with disabilities and child, family and environmental factors that support or
hinder their participation in home, school and community life. Social learning
and ecological theories have informed my work. I am particularly interested in
assessment and intervention approaches that identify and build upon what
individuals already know and do to manage their daily life routines and
participate in meaningful activities. Part of my research has involved
developing measures to assess participation and environmental factors. I am
primary author of the Child and Adolescent Scale of Participation (CASP) and
Child and Adolescent Scale of Environment (CASE) and co-author of the more
recently developed Participation and Environment Measure for Children and Youth
(PEM-CY). The ultimate aim of my research is to promote meaningful participation
and quality of life for children and youth across the lifespan.
