Associate Professor
I became a faculty member at Tufts University -- Department of Occupational
Therapy in 2003. I teach courses in outcomes measurement, research methods, and
clinical reasoning. My primary research examines participation of children and
youth with disabilities and chronic health conditions and child, family and
environmental factors that support or hinder their participation in home, school
and community life. Social learning and ecological theories have informed my
work. I am particularly interested in assessment and intervention approaches
that identify and build upon what individuals already know and do to manage
their daily life routines and participate in meaningful activities. Part of my
research has involved developing measures to assess participation and
environmental factors. Two of these measures, the Child and Adolescent Scale of
Participation (CASP) and Child and Adolescent Scale of Environment (CASE) are
being used in a number of studies and programs in the U.S. and worldwide. The
ultimate aim of my research is to promote meaningful participation and quality
of life for children and youth with disabling conditions across the lifespan.
