Dr. Bedell teaches doctoral proseminars and courses in outcomes measurement and research methods. His research examines activity participation of children and youth with disabilities and child, family and environmental factors that support or hinder their participation in home, school and community life. Social learning and ecological theories have informed his work. He is particularly interested in assessment and intervention approaches that identify and build upon what individuals already know and do to manage their daily life routines and participate in meaningful activities. Part of this research has involved developing measures to assess participation and environmental factors. Dr. Bedell is primary author of the Child and Adolescent Scale of Participation (CASP) and Child and Adolescent Scale of Environment (CASE) and co-author of the more recently developed Participation and Environment Measure for Children and Youth (PEM-CY). The ultimate aim of his research is to promote meaningful participation and quality of life of children and youth across the lifespan.
