Dr. Bailey teaches courses in research, clinical reasoning, evidence-based
practice, health policy, and occupational therapy management. Her research is in
the realm of occupational science, with a special interest in household
occupations and how people 'create home'. She has also written in the areas of
research methods, ethical dilemmas, and the position of occupational
therapy within the U.S. health care system. Recently, she has made presentations
on her research into the occupation of creating home: at the Annual Research Conferences of the Society for the Study of Occupation; the
Congress of the World Federation of
Occupational Therapy in Sweden; and the annual conference of the
American Occupational Therapy Association.
Dr. Bailey was recently awarded the Catherine A. Trombly Award for Significant
Contributions to the Occupational Therapy Profession by the Massachusetts
Association for Occupational Therapy, for furthering the profession through her
research and teaching. In the past, she has been on the Boards of several health
care organizations including the
Board of Allied Health Professions that licenses occupational therapy
practitioners in Massachusetts. Currently, she is on the editorial boards of the
American Journal of Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy
International, and the South African Journal of Occupational Therapy.
She is a member of the World Federation of Occupational Therapy, is the
Coordinator of the Department of Occupational Thearpy
Study Abroad
Program and advisor to the department's international students.
During her limited spare time, Dr. Bailey indulges in her passion for gardening;
as well as enjoying her own garden, she maintains one of the traffic islands in
her home town. She also enjoys a weekly tennis game, and occasional golf, and
kayaking.
