The Mission of the Boston School of Occupational
Therapy at Tufts University is to:
-
Offer students a comprehensive and rigorous theoretical
and practical education in occupational therapy.
-
Motivate students to adopt a global perspective on the
issues that
face the profession of occupational therapy.
-
Provide students with the knowledge and intellectual
skills to become leaders in shaping and implementing occupational therapy
practice.
-
Prepare students to become skilled practitioners and
researchers in
providing occupational therapy services aimed at promoting health
and wellness, and at enabling people's meaningful and satisfactory
participation in life activities.
-
Foster a diverse community of students, scholars,
teachers, practitioners, and researchers reflective of the world in which we
live.
-
Develop a spirit of collaboration and partnership within
the university, the greater community, and the world.
To accomplish this mission:
-
The curriculum is organized to provide students with a
solid theoretical and applied background in human occupation, performance, and
adaptation throughout the life cycle.
-
Clinical reasoning, coupled with the ability to link
occupational therapy practice with research and theory, form the organizing
principles for
the educational program.
-
Fieldwork and experiential learning reflecting
occupational therapy
practice and service activities are an integral part of the curriculum.
-
Students engage in graduate coursework to gain a solid
background
in biological and social sciences, health and disability studies, and
human occupational performance.
-
Students work in teams within and outside the classroom,
learning to become culturally sensitive service providers and reflective
practitioners.
-
Students work collaboratively with faculty and staff
creating an
individualized, supportive community within the Boston School of
Occupational Therapy.
