One of the functional attributes of use of silk for technology is the fact that these materials are safe for consumption.

With the addition of inert metals (Au) or biocompatible conductors (Mg) we are generating passive interfaces that are safe for food contact or to be consumed.  We explore these issues with collaborators both academic and industrial to develop a new class of technology by exploiting this unusual funcition
