July 2013

  • In collaboration with Emmanuel Beaurepaire's group at Ecole Polytechnique, our paper, "Non-invasive monitoring of cell metabolism and lipid production in 3D engineered human adipose tissues using label-free multiphoton microscopy" is accepted for publication in biomaterials. Co-authors included Tyler Chang, Max Zimmerley, Kyle Quinn, Isabelle Lamarre-Jouenne, David Kaplan, Emmanuel Beaurepaire, and Irene Georgakoudi.

June 2013

  • Antonio is awarded 3rd place in the student poster competition at the 2013 Tufts Cancer Center Symposium.

May 2013

  • Joanna's presentation "Identifying the metabolic origins of endogenous optical redox changes that arise during precancer", is selected as the 2nd Place winner for the Best Student Paper Award sponsored by Carl Zeiss, at the European Conference on Biomedical Optics held in Munich, Germany.

April 2013

  • Kyle and Irene's paper "Rapid quantification of pixel-wise fiber orientation data in micrographs" is published in the Journal of Biomedical Optics.
  • Kyle and Irene are awarded 1st place in the Photography and Illustrations Category at the 2013 Tufts Research Visualization Awards for their submission "Microstructural Heterogeneity of a Healing Wound".
  • In collaboration with the Black lab, they also won 1st Place in the Video Category for "Blood Vessel and Collagen Organization in the Heart". Kyle was also awarded 1st Place in the Software competition for "Automated visualization and quantification of fiber orientation".

October 2012

  • Our paper "Improved Fourier-based characterization of intracellular fractal features." is published in Optics Express. Co-authors included Joanna Xylas, Kyle Quinn, Martin Hunter, and Irene Georgakoudi.

August 2012

  • Kyle and Irene's review, "Optical Imaging Using Endogenous Contrast to Assess Metabolic State" is published in Annual Review of Biomedical Engineering.

July 2012

  • Our paper "Characterization of metabolic changes associated with the functional development of 3D engineered tissues by non-invasive, dynamic measurement of individual cell redox ratios" is published in Biomaterials. Co-authors included Kyle Quinn, Leah Bellas, Nikos Fourligas, Kyongbum Lee, David Kaplan, and Irene Georgakoudi.

April 2012

  • Kyle and Irene are awarded 1st Place in the photography competition for their NADH fluorescence image of an adipocyte at the Visualizing Research @ Tufts Awards.
  • Kyle, Irene, and Lauren Black are also awarded 1st Place in the illustration competition for
    their depiction of heart tissue at different scales.

July 2011

  • Kyle is awarded a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award for Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship (F32) from the NIH/NIAMS.
