Research Interests

My Ph.D. research was focused on the molecular mechanisms of T cell activation. In particular, I studied ZAP-70, a protein tyrosine kinase that is critical for proper T cell development and function and has been shown to play a role in human disease. I developed and analyzed an analog inhibitor system for ZAP-70, which I used to more directly study the protein's function in vitro and in vivo. The transgenic mouse that was developed to be sensitive to the analog inhibitor will also be useful for evaluating the clinical utility of a ZAP-70 inhibitor as a drug candidate.

Upon completion of my dissertation, I decided to focus on my passion for teaching and education. My overall goal is to increase retention of students in the sciences by instituting the most effective teaching techniques in the classroom.
