You will be part of a group of 4-6 students responsible for
giving a group oral presentation and for preparing a handout
for the class: each presentation will deal with one of several
selected evolutionary topics distributed in class. Each group
will be given copies of 2-3 seed papers, which are intended
to serve as a starting place for each group's own literature
research on this topic. Using A Biologist's Guide to Library
Resources, your group will work together to locate and review
additional primary literature and web resources, and to finally
select 3-5 papers and 2 web resources dealing with the chosen
topic that will form the basis of the group's presentation. |

 |
| In addition,
your own literature search and reading will form the basis of a written
commentary paper (up to 1000 words, equivalent to 3 double-spaced
pages) on your selected topic. This individually written paper
is due at the end of the semester, and can deal with any aspect(s)
of your chosen topic that caught your interest during your literature
research. This typed commentary paper should include a Literature
Cited section; your references do not need to be the same as the references
used in preparing your group's handout. Your commentary paper should
include a concise summary of each cited reference, but at least half
of your paper should focus on trying to synthesize and tie together
the main themes emerging from your literature review. |
