FURTEK, CADIGAN AND BENEDICT GAIN NSCAA AND NEWISA SOCCER HONORS
Furtek earns spot on NSCAA All-America Third Team

MEDFORD -- Three members of the Tufts University women's soccer team recently earned post-season honors distributed by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) and the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA). The highest honor went to senior midfielder Martha Furtek (East Falmouth, MA/Falmouth), who was selected as an NSCAA Third Team All-American.

In addition to the national honor, Furtek was also voted to the NSCAA All-New England First Team and the NEWISA First Team. Sophomore forward Cara Cadigan (Nahant, MA/Swampscott) was named to the NSCAA All-New England Second Team and the NEWISA Second Team. Senior defender Annie Benedict (Millburn, NJ/Millburn) is on the NEWISA Second Team and the NSCAA All-New England Third Team.

Furtek earned her third NSCAA regional honor and her first All-American recognition. She was at the center of a 13-3-2 season that culminated with another NCAA Tournament berth. She finished with three goals and five assists for 11 points.

Cadigan broke the Tufts scoring record with 19 goals and 45 points this season to lead the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) by a wide margin.

Benedict, a leader in back for the Tufts defense, was picked to the Third Team NSCAA All-New England for the second straight year. The Jumbos tied for third with just 17 goals allowed for the 2007 season.
