COACH TINA MCDAVITT NAMED TO 2009-10 U.S. INDOOR FIELD HOCKEY TEAM

MEDFORD -- Tufts University field hockey coach Tina McDavitt has been selected to USA Field Hockey's 2009-2010 roster for the Women's Indoor National Team. The team will represent the United States at the 2010 Indoor Pan Am Cup in March 2010 with the hopes of qualifying for the 2011 Indoor World Cup in Poznan, Poland.

The Women's Indoor National Team is coached by Shawn Hindy. The roster was completed after open tryouts were held in February at Winning Edge Sports in Oaks, Pennsylvania.

The head coach at Tufts since 2004, McDavitt is a 2000 Boston University graduate. She was captain of the 1999 team and led the Terriers to an undefeated America East Conference championship that season. An assistant at Holy Cross prior to Tufts, McDavitt won two Massachusetts state championships playing with the Walpole High School team in 1994 and 1995. She was the Regional Coaching Director for USA Field Hockey's Futures Program from 2003-06.

This past fall, McDavitt guided the Jumbos to the NCAA National Championship Game. Tufts finished 19-2 overall, the best winning percentage in the country. McDavitt was the conference's Coach of the Year after leading the team to a perfect 9-0 finish for first place in NESCAC. In five seasons at Tufts, she has guided the team to a stellar 61-25 record.

McDavitt has been on the U.S. Indoor Team since 2003. During that time, she has played in England, Scotland, Vienna, Bratislava and Canada for the Pan Am Games. She was on the team that earned a silver medal at the Pan Am Games in Canada in 2006. Due to the Tufts team extending its 2008 season into late November, McDavitt was unable to play for the USA Team that won a silver medal at the 2008 Indoor Pan Am Cup in San Juan, Argentina.

"It has been an amazing experience being on the team, but I also have the feeling that we have unfinished business because we keep getting the silver and to qualify for the World Cup in Poland in 2011 we need to get the Gold at the Pan Am's in Trinidad next March," she said.

As a member of the U.S. Indoor Team, McDavitt will participate in a training schedule through the spring and summer, as well as tour to Europe in the winter, before playing in the March 2010 Indoor Pan Am Cup.

"We were excited to have such an immense number of women try out for the USA Indoor team and it was difficult to select the 24 athletes that will make up the 2009-10 USA Women's Indoor National Squad," Hindy said in a USA Field Hockey press release. "The team and coaches will work hard together, become a closer team, and represent the United States in the highest honor."
