Monday, October 5, 2009FEIGER IS JUMBOS' SECOND STRAIGHT
NESCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MEDFORD
-- For the second Monday in a row, a Tufts University volleyball
player has been chosen as the New England Small College Athletic
Conference's (NESCAC) Player of the Week. This time, it's senior
co-captain and setter Dena Feiger (Long Grove, IL/Adlai
Stevenson), who follows last week's recipient and fellow
co-captain Brogie Helgeson (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Catalina).
Feiger was the catalyst during a very successful
week for Coach Cora Thompson's team. Tufts defeated UMass Boston in
five sets on Tuesday, avenging their only loss of the season so far.
On Friday and Saturday, Tufts hosted and won the sixth annual Tufts
Invitational. The team's winning streak is now 16 games, improving
their record to 16-1. Tufts was 5-0 for the week overall.
This is the second NESCAC weekly honor for Feiger,
who received her first as a sophomore in October 2007. In four
matches played this week (15 sets), Feiger averaged 10.53 assists
and 2.33 digs per set. She had 52 assists in the win over UMass
Boston.
Feiger was named the Most Valuable Player of the
Tufts Invitational, which the Jumbos won for the third time. She
averaged 10.6 assists per set during the weekend, finishing with 34
in three sets against Keene State in the final match of the weekend.
Defensively, she reached double digits in digs twice with 12 in four
sets against Hiram and 10 in three sets versus Union. She had a 2.9
digs average per set at the tournament, and her 29 total digs was
second on the team.
