DENNISTON EARNS NESCAC CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR FOR ROLE IN
5-0 WEEK
MEDFORD -- The Tufts University volleyball team had a very
successful first week of the 2008 season, and senior tri-captain
Kate Denniston (Tarzana, CA/Chaminade) was stellar offensively
to lead the way. She has earned New England Small College Athletic
Conference Conference (NESCAC) Co-Player of the Week for her
performance.
Tufts went 5-0 for the week, defeating Stonehill at home 3-1 on
Tuesday before making a perfect 4-0 run through the Brandeis
Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Their first tournament
appearance of the season was capped by a 3-0 victory against defending NESCAC
champion Williams College.
After putting down four kills with a .309 percentage against
Stonehill, Denniston was a force at Brandeis and was named to the
All-Tournament team. She hit at a .465 clip with 21 kills and just
one error in 43 attempts. She had seven kills with no errors in the
tournament opener against Rhode Island College and then nine kills
with no errors versus Williams. She also had six service aces in
Friday's two matches against RIC and Babson, and was in on three
blocks against Smith on Saturday. She finished the week with eight
blocks total (two solo).
Denniston currently leads the NESCAC in hitting percentage with a
.429 mark. She has 25 kills and just one error in 56 total attempts.
She shares this week's NESCAC Volleyball Player of the Week award
with Kristin Hanczor of Bowdoin, who had 38 kills and 14 blocks in
three matches last week.
