DAWSON JOYCE-MENDIVE EARNS NESCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK AS JUMBOS
CLINCH FIRST PLACE
MEDFORD --
Sophomore Dawson Joyce-Mendive (Minden, NV), the leading
hitter on the Tufts University volleyball team, is the third Jumbo
to earn the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
Player of the Week honor. She was selected today after recording 32
kills in matches against Wesleyan and Trinity that earned Tufts a
perfect 10-0 conference season.
After sitting out the team's first match of the week against
Worcester State on Wednesday, an easy 3-0 win, Joyce-Mendive was
well-rested and came out firing in the team's important match at
Wesleyan. She finished with 18 kills in the four-set victory that
secured first place in the league for the Jumbos. She hit at a .318
percentage and added three digs that night.
With first-place in the bag, Tufts didn't let up on Saturday against
Trinity when they went for an undefeated conference record. Joyce-Mendive
was even more precise, hitting .333 with 14 kills and three errors
in 33 attempts. She also added five digs and a block assist.
For the two matches, Joyce-Mendive averaged 4.57 kills per set while
hitting at a .325 rate. She's currently third in the league with
3.45 kills per set overall.
Senior tri-captain Kate Denniston (Tarzana, CA) was the first
Jumbo to earn the NESCAC award, sharing the honor on September 15.
Sophomore Caitlin Updike (Manhattan Beach, CA) was the
conference recipient on September 29.
