WYSHAM EARNS FIRST TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE RECOGNITION
MEDFORD --
The New England Small College Athletic Conference's (NESCAC)
volleyball coaches have selected Tufts University senior captain
Katie Wysham (Spokane, WA/St. George's School) to the
All-Conference first team for the 2007 season. She is one of seven
players in the league to earn the honor.
This is the second All-NESCAC award for Wysham. She was voted to the
second team last fall. The conference honor follows an All-New
England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) first team selection
for Wysham earlier this week.
The only senior who played for Tufts this fall, Wysham was among the
league leaders offensive and defensively. Her .256 hitting
percentage with 237 kills and 65 errors in 671 attempts is 14th in
the league. She was most impressive as a blocker, recording 153 in
96 games (71 solo) for an average of 1.59 per game that was almost
one-half more than the second-best blocker in NESCAC. Wysham was
edged for NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year honors by Trinity
College's Katie Lenz, who led the conference with 6.08 digs per
game.
After a slow start, the Jumbos finished strong. They posted a 7-3
mark during the conference regular season to take third place in the
NESCAC. After defeating Trinity College, 3-0, in the first round of
the conference tournament, Tufts lost 3-0 to eventual champion
Williams College in their semi-final match. Tufts finished at 19-13
overall.
