MACY NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT AT BATES INVITATIONAL

MEDFORD - Tufts University junior Emily Macy (Henderson, NV/Green Valley) was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Bates Invitational volleyball tournament in Lewiston, Maine, this past weekend (Oct. 3-4). Macy averaged 3.1 kills and 2.5 digs per game over three matches, leading the Jumbos to a 3-0 record at the invitational.

The highlight of the weekend was Macy's 16-kill performance in a 3-1 victory over host Bates College. She also recorded eight kills, 12 digs, and two blocks (one solo) in a 3-0 win over Johnson & Wales, and seven kills, two service aces, and nine digs in a 3-0 victory over Bridgewater State. On the weekend, Macy tallied 31 kills and 25 digs to go with four service aces and five blocks.

A top performer in each of her first two years at Tufts, Macy continues to excel as one of the team's most reliable hitters. She is currently second on the squad with 171 kills (2.76 per game), and is second on the team with 164 digs (2.65 per game).

The Jumbos are currently without senior captains Amy Cronin (Kirkland, WA/Interlake) and Lindsey Moses (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco University HS), but several players -- including Macy -- have raised the level of their game in the seniors' absence. Sophomore Courtney Evans (Bellaire, TX/Episcopal) is currently second in the NESCAC in both blocks (1.51 per game) and hitting percentage (.369), while freshman Kelli Harrison (Blue Jay, CA/Rim of the World) is among the conference leaders in kills (3.63 per game) and hitting percentage (.326).

With the three-match sweep at Bates, Head Coach Cora Thompson's squad improved to 12-5 overall and 2-1 in the NESCAC. The Jumbos will travel to Trinity College this weekend (Oct. 10-11) for the second NESCAC Weekend of the season, and will face host Trinity, Wesleyan, and Connecticut College.
