HARRISON NAMED TO MIT INVITE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
MEDFORD - Freshman Kelli Harrison (Blue Jay, CA/Rim of the World) was named to the MIT Women's Volleyball Invitational All-Tournament Team for her play in four matches over the weekend (September 27-28). She was one of six players out of 16 teams to be named to the team. Harrison recorded 57 kills, four service aces, and 46 digs on the weekend as Tufts went 2-2 in the tournament to finish in sixth place.
Harrison had a team-high 17 kills in a dramatic 3-2 (30-20, 19-30, 30-26, 24-30, 16-18) loss to then-undefeated Springfield College on Friday night at Cousens Gym. Her intensity and pounding kills kept Tufts close until the final point. She also had two service aces and seven digs to go along with two assisted blocks in the match. In Tufts' two victories, the first a 3-1 (29-31, 30-14, 35-33, 30-18) win over Skidmore on Friday and the second a 3-1 (21-30, 30-25, 30-19, 30-22) victory over Smith on Saturday, Harrison recorded 16 kills in each match and a total of 16 digs.
The Jumbos are currently 9-5 after playing the past nine matches without senior starters
Amy Cronin (Kirkland, WA/Interlake) and Lindsey Moses (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco University HS). Sophomores
Courtney Evans (Bellaire, TX/Episcopal) and April Gerry (Holmes, NY), along with junior setter
Rebecca Schaevitz (San Rafael, CA/The Branson School) have stepped up in their absence to keep the Jumbos rolling.
The Jumbo offense is led by Harrison, who averages 3.57 kills per game. She is hitting at a 30.4 success rate. She is also tied for second on the team with 17 service aces and third on the team with 2.49 digs per game. Earlier this season she was picked to the Coast Guard Invitational All-Tournament team.
Tufts is off until Friday (Oct. 4) when they will travel to Bates College for the Bates Invitational. The next weekend (Oct. 10-11) will be their second NESCAC weekend of the season, with three matches at Trinity College.
