SILLERS, STEWART NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT AT COAST GUARD
MEDFORD -- Senior tri-captain Karen Sillers (Albany, CA/Albany) and junior
Jessica Stewart (Tallahassee, FL/Leon) of the Tufts University Volleyball squad were named to the All-Tournament Team at the Coast Guard Invitational in New London, Conn., this past Friday and Saturday (Sept. 8-9).
Sillers, an outside hitter who is a second-year captain, posted an impressive 28.9 hitting percentage at the tournament, including a 13 for 23 performance (52.2) in a 3-1 victory against Coast Guard on Saturday. She also held a .911 serve percentage at the tournament, highlighted by an errorless 22-serve performance capped by two aces in a 3-1 win against Bridgewater State on Friday.
Stewart, a New England All-Star last fall, led the Jumbos with 4.54 kills per game during the tournament, including 25 kills in Saturday's four-game match against Coast Guard. Stewart also posted eight service aces (seven against Coast Guard) in the tournament, as well as a team-leading 2.39 digs per game.
Sillers, Stewart, and the rest of the Tufts Jumbos will take their 4-1 record into Amherst, Mass. for the NESCAC weekend this Friday and Saturday (Sept. 15-16).
