DAYTONA, Fla. -- The Tufts University women's tennis team continued its spring break trip with a match against the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday morning. The Division I Rams defeated Tufts, 7-0, to improve to 8-4 overall, while Tufts falls to 2-3 overall (0-2 for the spring).

The teams used the Division I scoring method of counting doubles as only one point. The Jumbo pair of Meghan McCooey (Cumberland, RI) and Erica Miller (Boca Raton, FL) won the #2 match 8-6, but the Rams won the other two doubles matches and therefore took the point. Rhode Island swept the six singles competitions. Tufts junior Mari Homma (Eastchester, NY) lost in three sets, but first-year Edwina Stewart (London, ENG) also had a competitive match.

Tufts continues its busy spring break week by facing Carthage College on Wednesday in Orlando. It will be their third straight day with a match.
