BROWNE VOTED INTERCOLLEGIATE TENNIS ASSOCIATION NORTHEAST
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
MEDFORD --
Preparing to play in the NCAA Singles Championships later this week,
and the only first-year player among 20 recognized as All-New
England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), Tufts women's
tennis player Julia Browne (Old Brookville, NY) has now added
another honor to her outstanding first season with the Jumbos.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced on Friday
that Browne was selected as Northeast Region Rookie of the Year.
Four regional winners were named across the country. The national
winner will be selected from among the four regional winners on
Thursday, May 15.
After playing at #3 in the fall, Browne moved into the #1 spot
for the spring season. She played a few matches at #2 during the
year as well and is the #10 ranked player overall in the ITA
Northeast ratings. The NESCAC Rookie of the Year, Browne has a 15-6 singles mark.
Browne and teammate Meghan McCooey (Cumberland, RI) are
two of 32 players who will compete in the NCAA Division 3 Singles
Championships at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota
beginning on Friday (May 16).
