McCOOEY, BROWN EARN ITA TENNIS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS
MEDFORD --
Sophomore Meghan McCooey (Cumberland, RI) and first-year
Julia Browne (Old Brookville, NY) of the Tufts University
women's tennis team earned their way onto the Intercollegiate Tennis
Association's 2008 All-American Team with their play this past
season.
McCooey and Browne both gained their All-American awards in singles
play. Thirty players in all won All-American honors from the ITA for
their singles play. The criteria included either being a top 8 seed
in NCAA singles tournament, winning one round at the NCAA singles
tournament, finishing in the top 20 in the final ITA Rankings,
winning the ITA Fall Regional Tournament or winning a round/match at
the ITA National Small College Championships.
McCooey advanced all the way to the semi-finals at the NCAA singles
championships and was the #16 ranked player in the nation in the
final ITA rankings released on June 4. Browne is #15 in the final
ITA singles rankings.
Coach Kate Bayard's Tufts team finished the 2007-08 season as the
#13 ranked team in the ITA national poll.
