HARTFORD -- The Tufts University women's squash team
lost twice on Saturday at the NESCAC Championships. The Jumbos,
seeded eighth in the tournament draw, lost 9-0 to Trinity in the
quarterfinals on Saturday morning. Later in the day, Tufts lost a
consolation match to Bates 9-0.
In the Trinity match, Tufts received good play in
the #1 match from senior tri-captain Victoria Barba (New York,
NY), who scored 14 points in a loss. First-year Mercedes
Barba (New York, NY), Victoria's sister, also represented
herself well in a loss, scoring 12 points in a loss. Trinity, the #3
ranked team in the country, won easily in the other seven matches.
The Jumbos were more competitive as a whole against
#12 Bates. Senior Caroline Choi (South Korea) won the second
game in the #9 match 9-1 before losing in four. Mercedes Barba
scored 13 points in the fourth match.
Tufts will play another consolation match to
conclude its play in the NESCAC's when they face Amherst on Sunday
at Trinity.
