BRUNSWICK, Me. -- The Tufts University softball team polished off a perfect conference schedule with a double-header sweep of Bowdoin on Saturday, 9-1 and 6-3. The Jumbos round out their NESCAC East Division slate with a perfect 12-0 record and improve to 32-0 overall. Bowdoin falls to 19-15-1 and 2-7 in NESCAC play.

Tufts took advantage of five Bowdoin errors in the opener en route to the eight-run victory. The visitors scored four times in the second - on three hits and three errors - to take the lead for good. Senior Cara Hovhanessian (Farmington, CT) had two hits and two RBI while junior Christy Tinker (Woodbridge, CT) collected a pair of RBI. Senior Laura Chapman (Seattle, WA) posted two hits and two runs scored to pace the Jumbo attack. Sophomore Izzie Santone (Madison, CT) tossed five innings for Tufts, allowing no earned runs.

Lauren Coven collected a run-scoring single for Bowdoin's lone run as Karen Reni allowed five earned runs in the loss for the Polar Bears.

Tufts junior SS Casey Sullivan (Berlin, CT) dominated game two, going 5 for 5 with a pair of home runs to lead the Jumbos to victory. The visitors led 6-0 before Bowdoin rallied to score three times in the bottom of the sixth. Senior pitcher Lauren Gelmetti (Westfield, NJ) came in to relieve Tufts starter Stefanie Tong (Burlingame, CA) and sealed the victory for the Jumbos.

Tong went 5.1 innings, permitting two earned runs while striking out seven. Gelmetti earned the save with 1.2 frames of relief, allowing just one hit as first-year Lena Cantone (Southington, CT) collected three hits for Tufts in support of Sullivan's efforts. Bowdoin was led by two hits apiece from Amy Hackett and Alison Coleman. Julia Jacobs was charged with the loss after allowing two earned runs and seven hits over 5.1 innings.

Tufts plays a double-header against Endicott at home next Saturday (Apr. 25). Bowdoin hosts the University of New England on Tuesday.
