KUHLES SELECTED FIRST NESCAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR 2008 SEASON

MEDFORD -- Tufts University junior 3B Samantha Kuhles (Somerville, NJ) of the Jumbo softball team has been chosen as the New England Small College Athletic Conference's (NESCAC) first Player of the Week following her performance at the Sun West Tournament hosted by Chapman University in Orange, California last week.

In 11 games (10 starts), Kuhles hit .474 (18/38) for Coach Cheryl Milligan's 15th ranked Jumbos. She scored a team-high 15 runs and drove home 13, second-most on the trip. Six of her hits were doubles, helping account for 24 total bases and a .632 slugging percentage. She also walked twice (.500 OBP), put down two sacrifice bunts and stole two bases.

Kuhles hit in nine of the 11 games in which she appeared. She was 3 for 4 with three runs scored in the second game of the season against Hamline, a 12-7 victory. She followed that with a 3 for 4 with three runs line in the next game against Avila. Her third three-hit game of the week came in the finale against Cal State San Marcos on March 22. She was 2 for 3 with four RBI against University of St. Thomas on March 18, a 12-4 win over the #4 Tommies by the Jumbos. She had two hits and two RBI when the teams met again later in the week, a St. Thomas victory.

A two-time All-NESCAC First team selection in her two seasons at Tufts, Kuhles earned her first Player of the Week award.

Tufts finished 7-5 during its week at Sun West. They open their New England schedule at home on Friday with a NESCAC East Division game against Bowdoin College. First pitch is at 4:00 pm.
