MOREAU EARNS NESCAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD

MEDFORD- Tufts University junior pitcher Jodie Moreau (Clarksburg, MA/Hoosac Valley) earned recognition as Softball Player of the Week from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).

Moreau had an outstanding week pitching in three games for the Jumbos, allowing 12 hits and only one run in 21 innings pitched, earning a 0.33 earned run average. She also didn't walk a single batter while striking out 17 in two wins and a tie.

Tufts faced Bridgewater State, one of the most competitive Division III teams in the region, on April 2 with Moreau on the mound. Allowing only three hits, she led the Jumbos to a 1-1 finish after a 3-2 loss to Bridgewater in the previous game. Moreau struck out eight batters and did not allow a single run in a complete game. On April 4 the Jumbos battled against Wheaton, another one of the top New England teams, with Moreau earning the 1-0 shut out with two strike outs and only five hits, all singles. On April 7 Tufts squared up against Bates, an important NESCAC East Division opponent, and Moreau again proved her excellence on the mound with seven strikeouts and only four singles.

Moreau, who pitched Tufts into the NCAA Division III College World Series last season, is again one of the pitchers to watch in New England this spring. She has a 5-3 record with a 2.19 earned run average and 38 strike outs in 60.2 innings pitched.

The Jumbos, 10-7-1 and 2-0 in the NESCAC East, are having another good season so far. One of the strongest teams in the region over the past five years, Tufts has made four stragith NCAA Tournament appearances. They are in action next at Salem State on March 10.
