Fanna Gamal was one of six Tufts seniors playing in their final regular-season home game

SOMERVILLE -- The Tufts University women's soccer team finished their home schedule on Saturday, drawing 1-1 with Trinity in a NESCAC game before a Parents' Weekend crowd on Saturday afternoon at Kraft Field. Senior Whitney Hardy (Truckee, CA) scored the equalizing goal, but Tufts was unable to capitalize on several chances throughout the overtime period.

Tufts had most of the chances in the first half and really throughout the whole game, in which they fired 12 shots on goal. The Jumbos nearly took the lead 34 minutes in when Trinity keeper Emily Weedon (Wellesley, MA) misplayed a bouncing ball. The chance fell to senior Jesslyn Jamison (Berkeley, CA), who poked it high over the bar. Ten minutes later, Tufts junior Bailey Morgan (Universal City, TX) almost put the Jumbos ahead on the stroke of halftime. Her shot from the left side beat the keeper, but unluckily clanged off the far post and was cleared by the Bantams defense, and the teams went into the break scoreless.

Despite a slow start, it was the Bantams who broke through first, scoring on their first shot of the game in the 53rd minute. Sophomore Leigh Howard (Bethany, CT) played the ball through the Jumbos' back line, finding Jenny Ley (Warwick, RI) streaking to the net. The sophomore slid the ball low and put it past Tufts keeper Kate Minnehan's (Hopkinton, NH) left side for her fifth goal of the season.

Hardy, who of six Jumbos playing on Seniors' Day, had a phenomenal game, peppering nine shots at the Trinity goal. She finally connected in the 63rd minute. Classmate Cara Cadigan (Nahant, MA) played her at the corner of the box, and Hardy curled the ball on goal, finding the far post with a beauty of a goal to even the score at 1-1.

Tufts continued to pressure the strong Trinity backline, but could not capitalize on a flurry of opportunities late in the game and in the overtime period. Senior Ali Maxwell (Exeter, NH) had two shots saved five minutes from the end of extra time, and senior Fanna Gamal (Albany, CA) sent a shot wide after having another one blocked.

Minnehan stopped two shots for Tufts, who are now 6-4-1 (4-2-1 NESCAC). Weedon made 11 saves in a strong effort for the Bantams, who now post a 4-3-3 record (2-3-2 NESCAC). The Jumbos finished with a 27-10 margin in shots, though corner kicks finished 2-1 in favor of Trinity.

Tufts ends a four-game home-stand with the tie and plays next on Wednesday at Salem State. The Bantams travel to Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday.
