TUFTS UNIVERSITY'S KAITY STORCK VOTED NEW ENGLAND SAILOR OF THE YEAR

MEDFORD -- Senior captain Kaity Storck (Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's), the A skipper for the Tufts University women's sailing team, has been voted by the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) as its 2008 Women's Sailor of the Year. The award is determined by a committee of coaches based on performance during the season.

Storck also earned the Woman's Sportsmanship Award from NEISA, which is voted upon by all competing schools. Storck was named an All-New England first team skipper, while her classmate and crew Lyndsey Gibbons-Neff (Rosemont, PA/Radnor) was named an All-New England crew. The recipients were announced at the annual NEISA Women's Dinghy Championships hosted by Yale University over the weekend (Apr. 19-20).

Storck and GIbbons-Neff teamed up to take second place in the A Division at the New England Championships. That led the Jumbos to a second-place finish as a team, which earned them a berth into the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) national championship regatta in Newport, Rhode Island May 26-28.

Earlier this spring season. Storck, with Gibbons-Neff as her crew for 10 of the 12 races, won the A Division at the Dellenbaugh Trophy hosted by Brown University March 29-30. They began the spring season as the A Division runner-up at the St. Mary's College Inter-sectional in Maryland March 15-16.

During the fall season, Storck and Gibbons-Neff won A Division at the Atlantic Coast championships hosted by Yale. That helped Tufts to place fourth overall. The Tufts duo was also second in A Division at the Stu Nelson Trophy hosted by Connecticut College.

Last year, Storck was one of nine ICSA All-Americans for the 2006-2007 season. She was the only member of the All-American team from the New England region. With Storck skippering the A boat, Tufts won the New England title for the first time since 2001 last spring. Storck was an ICSA Honorable Mention All-American in 2006.
