Senior Sarah Williams tallied four goals with six assists

BEVERLY -- The 20th ranked Tufts University Jumbos received four goals and six assists from senior Sarah Williams (Bethesda, MD) on Thursday at Endicott College, leading to a 17-7 victory that is the third in a row for the team.

The host Gulls came out strong early in the first half, receiving two goals from sophomore Valerie Feldman (Albany, NY) to help build a 4-2 lead. Tufts would battle back, tying the score at 5-all on a goal from junior Chrissie Attura (Yarmouth, ME) on a free-position shot. The Jumbos took control from that point on, scoring four more goals, including three straight by sophomore Emily Johnson (Yarmouth, ME), to go into halftime with a 9-5 lead.

Tufts continued to roll in the second half, scoring the period's first four goals to extend their lead to 13-5. Freshman Kellie Cunningham (Derry, NH) gave the Gulls some hope by finding the back of the net for two straight goals, cutting the Jumbo lead to 13-7. Tufts responded well, shutting out Endicott for the game's final 15 minutes, while tacking on four more goals. The Jumbos went on to win by the final score of 17-7.

The win improves the Jumbos to 6-3 overall. In addition to Williams' 10-point game, Johnson collected five points on three goals and two assists. Current NESCAC Player of the Week Amanda Roberts (Wenham, MA) added three goals and an assist. First-year goalie Sara Bloom (Summit, NJ) made 11 saves in recording the victory.

Feldman led the Gulls with four points on three goals and one assist. Cunningham chipped in two goals, while junior Alex Pearce (Underhill, VT) added a goal and an assist in the loss.

Tufts travels to Bowdoin on Saturday for a NESCAC match at noon. The Gulls will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England in a TCCC match up. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
