ROUND HOST SITES

MEDFORD
-- For the second straight season, Tufts University will host second
and third round games in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey
Championship. Bello Field will be the site of three tournament games
next weekend (Nov. 14-15).
Tufts (16-1), which won its first New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) title with a 3-2 victory at Trinity College on
Sunday, receives a first-round bye. Liberty League champions
Skidmore College (16-3) also earned a first-round bye into the Tufts
Regioinal.
On Wednesday (Nov. 11), first-round play began in the 2009 NCAA's.
Amherst (12-4), an NCAA at-large selection from the NESCAC, defeated North Atlantic Conference champion Husson
(9-8) by a 3-0 score. New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference winner MIT (18-4) won 2-1 overa The Commonwealth
Coast Conference champion and host Nichols (18-4). The winners move on to the Tufts Regional. On Saturday,
the Jumbos will face either MIT at 11:00 am. Skidmore will play Amherst
at 2:00 pm.
Saturday's winners will advance to the national quarterfinals on
Sunday at Bello with a 1:00 starting time. Tickets for all three
games will be available at the gate. Adults $5, Students $4, and
children (under 12)/senior citizens $3.
The winner of the Tufts Regional will play in the NCAA semi-finals, which will be held at Mount Holyoke College in
South Hadley, Massachusetts on Saturday, November 21. The NCAA
Championship Game is scheduled for Sunday, November 22 at Mount
Holyoke.
Tufts, which earned its fifth NCAA Tournament berth, defeated
Springfield College and The College of New Jersey at home last
season to gain an NCAA "final four" appearance. Coach Tina
McDavitt's team won 5-2 against Messiah in the national semi-finals
before losing 3-2 in overtime against Bowdoin in the NCAA title
game.
