BROWN EARNS TEAM'S FIRST NESCAC PLAYER OF THE
WEEK AWARD
MEDFORD
-- In the eighth week of the 2009 New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) field hockey season, Tufts University garnered
its first Player of the Week award when junior forward Tamara
Brown (Annandale, VA) was selected today. The 2008 All-American
receives the honor for the third time in her career.
As is often the case, Brown's offense was instrumental in two Jumbo
victories last week. She scored the first Tufts goal early in the
second half of a 2-0 victory at Bowdoin on Friday afternoon. She
then scored both goals during a 2-0 victory over Wesleyan in the
first round of the conference tournament at home on Bello Field
Sunday afternoon. The two game-winners gave Brown six this season
and 15 for her career.
The Tufts win against the Polar Bears came in a rematch of last
year's NCAA Championship game. It gave the Jumbos an 8-1 NESCAC
record for the #2 seed in the conference tournament. In the first
round on Sunday, Tufts advanced into the semi-finals for the fourth
straight year with the victory over the Cardinals. Brown scored
three of the team's four goals for the week.
The all-time Tufts leader in goals and points, Brown leads NESCAC in
every scoring category this season with 19 goals, nine assists and
47 points. Her 95 shots are 28 more than any other player in the
league has attempted. Behind her lead, Tufts is first in the
conference with 63 goals scored.
Brown was NESCAC Player of the Week twice last season.
Tufts will play Williams College in the conference semifinals on
Saturday at Trinity.
