Monday, September 15, 2008BROWN'S FOUR GOALS NETS HER NESCAC
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR
MEDFORD --
Sophomore Tamara Brown (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) has been
the offensive leader of the Tufts University field hockey team's
tremendous start to the 2008 season. She has scored seven of the
team's 21 goals in three games, including four last week that has earned
her a share of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
Player of the Week honor.
After scoring once in a 6-1 victory against Wellesley on Wednesday -
the team's first victory against the Blue since 2004 - Brown tallied
three times in a 5-0 conference win against Colby College on
Saturday. The hat trick was her second of the season already,
including a three-goal game in the opener against Wesleyan. Her
three scores against Colby came within a four-minute span early in
the second half to turn a 1-0 Tufts lead into a 4-0 advantage. The
win improved Tufts to 3-0 for the first time since 1998.
Brown shares this week's NESCAC honor with Wesleyan goalkeeper Breen
McDonald, who made 18 saves in a 1-0 loss to defending national
champion Bowdoin College on Saturday.
With seven goals and 14 points early in the 2008 season, Brown is
tied for second in the league in goals and is third in points. After
overcoming a knee injury last year, she scored five goals with an
assist for 11 points in 13 games for the Jumbos. That puts her career numbers at
Tufts so far at 12 goals and 25 points in 16 games played.
