MEDFORD - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) recently named its 2005 Division III National Academic Squad and National Academic Team Awards. The Tufts University team, coached by Tina McDavitt, was represented on both.
Twelve Jumbo field hockey players were selected to the NFHCA National Academic Squad. The program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2005-06 academic year.
The Tufts players named were: sophomore Ileana Casellas-Katz (Denmark, ME/Fryeburg Academy), senior Therese Corsello (York, ME/York), junior Marilyn Duffy-Cabana (Amesbury, MA/Amesbury), senior Erika Goodwin (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central), freshman Brittany Holiday (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley), freshman Tess Jasinski (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park and River Forest), junior Kathleen Martin (Cumberland, ME/Yarmouth), senior Lea Napolitano (Waltham, MA/Waltham), freshman Lauren Stahl (Ossining, NY/Ossining), freshman Dana Svendsen (North Andover, MA/North Andover), junior Stacey Watkins (St. Louis, MO/John Burroughs), and sophomore Jennie Williamson (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury).
With a team cumulative grade point average over 3.0, Tufts also earned the NFHCA's Natonal Team Academic Award.
The Jumbo field hockey team finished the 2005 season with a record of 8-7 overall and 5-4 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) for fifth place. Napolitano and Watkins were both named to the first team NFHCA All-Region, and voted to the All-NESCAC team.
