PANZER SETS FIELD HOCKEY SINGLE-SEASON SCORING RECORD

MEDFORD -- On Sunday, senior Dana Panzer (Sayville, NY/Sayville) of the Tufts University Field Hockey team notched an assist in a 2-0 playoff win over Wesleyan University to set a new school single-season scoring record at 33 points. The record was previously held by Kate Mathey, who had 14 goals and four assists for a total of 32 points in the 1996 season.

With no goals and only four career points coming into this season, Panzer has scored in 11 of 15 games for the Jumbos this year, with a total of 12 goals and nine assists - top marks for the team in each category.  Her 33 points are nearly double the next highest total on the team. Panzer's contributions have not gone unnoticed at the conference level, as she earned New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Week honors for the week of September 27 through October 3.   The Tufts tri-captain ranks fourth in NESCAC in points per game (2.20), fifth in goals per game (0.8) and fifth in assists per game (0.6).

Panzer has multiple goals in three games this season, netting two at Wheaton on October 21, two against Bates on October 2 and two against Gordon College on September 21, as the Jumbos went on to win all three.  Panzer played an integral part in matches against Wesleyan and Babson, scoring the game-winning goal in each.  In addition, Panzer netted three of her 12 goals off penalty strokes, in matches against Wesleyan on October 26, Amherst on September 25, and Wellesley on September 15.

Panzer was recently selected to play in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III North/South Senior All-Star Game.  She is one of only four NESCAC players to earn a spot on the North Squad, who will take on a squad from the South on Saturday, November 20 at Westfield State College in Massachusetts.

With their 2-0 win over the Wesleyan Cardinals in the first round of the NESCAC Tournament on Sunday, head coach Tina McDavitt's Jumbos improved their season mark to 10-5. The finished fifth for the regular season with a 5-4 NESCAC mark.  The win puts Tufts into the NESCAC Tournament semi-finals, where they will play Williams College on Saturday (Nov. 6) at Middlebury, Vt.
