PANZER NAMED TO NFHCA DIV. III NORTH ALL-STAR TEAM

MEDFORD - Tufts senior tri-captain Dana Panzer (Sayville, NY/Sayville) has been chosen to play in the Division III North/South Senior All-Star Game by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Panzer is one of only four players chosen from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) to play in this prestigious game.

Panzer led Tufts this season with 33 points on 12 goals and nine assists, both team highs as well. The 33 points are a new team record, surpassing the previous mark of 32 points scored by Kate Mathey in 1996. Her 12 goals tied for third on the team's all-time single-season list. In nine NESCAC match-ups, she provided the Jumbos with six goals and four assists for a team-leading 16 points in league play.

Panzer scored two game-winning goals for Tufts this year. Her penalty-stroke score in the second overtime lifted the Jumbos past Wesleyan, 2-1, on October 26. She also had the game-winner in a 3-0 victory over Bates College on October 2 in a game during which she scored two goals with an assist. Including a goal and an assist against Babson on September 30, she was named the NESCAC's Player of the Week for her efforts against Babson and Bates.

Three times this fall Panzer scored on penalty strokes. Including the Wesleyan regular-season game, she also scored on strokes in a 4-0 victory against Wellesley on September 15 and in a 2-1 loss to Amherst on September 25.

Panzer will join Wendy Bonner of Colby, Ashley Pullen of Middlebury, and Jennifer Wasserman of Wesleyan as members of the North Squad. The NFHCA Div. III North/South Senior All-Star Game will take place on Saturday, November 20 at Westfield State College in Westfied, Massachusetts.

Tufts (10-6, 5-4 NESCAC) had a successful 2004 season under first-year head coach Tina McDavitt. The Jumbos advanced to the NESCAC Tournament semi-finals for the first time since 2000. They also had the most victories (10) since 2000, scored the most goals (32) since 1996 and posted the most shutouts (8) since 1997. They had a 1-0 victory over eventual NESCAC champion on October 23.
