JUMBO FIELD HOCKEY EARNS NFHCA NATIONAL ACADEMIC AWARDS
MEDFORD – The Tufts University Field Hockey team was recently recognized for its academic achievement for the Fall 2004 semester by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
Head coach Tina McDavitt's Tufts team was a recipient of the 2004 NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award as a program with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Additionally, 10 members of the Jumbos were named to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad due to their grade point averages of 3.30 or better during the Fall 2004 semester.
The 10 Jumbos honored are: junior Erika Goodwin (Whitehouse Station, NJ), senior Jayme Heller (Chadds Ford, PA), freshman Ileana Katz (Denmark, ME), sophomore Beth Kelley (Lynnfield, MA), sophomore Kathleen Martin (Cumberland, ME), junior tri-captain Lea Napolitano (Waltham, MA), sophomore Tracy Rittenour (Duxbury, MA), senior Tracey Samko (Arlington, MA), sophomore Stacey Watkins (St. Louis, MO) and freshman Jennie Williamson (Sudbury, MA).
Along with their academic success, Tufts also enjoyed its most successful competitive season in years. The Jumbos finished 10-6, scored more goals (32) than any Jumbo team since 1996 and shut out eight opponents, the team's best total since 1997.
