LIONETTI, ORF, SZAJDA NAMED FIELD HOCKEY CAPTAINS

MEDFORD- Tufts University seniors Lindsay Lionetti (Stamford, CT/Greenwich Academy), Christina Orf (Lexington, MA/Lexington) and Barbara Szajda (Farmington, CT/Farmington) have been named as the 2001 Field Hockey Tri-Captains. As the Jumbos open up thier season this Thursday (Sept. 13) against Bentley, Tufts will look to this threesome to lead the charge in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).

As attacker last year, Orf tallied two goals and three assists for a total of seven points. During a crucial NESCAC Tournament game against Wesleyan, Orf scored a key goal in the Jumbos' double-overtime 2-1 victory. Throughout her career at Tufts, Orf has scored six goals and tallied four assists for a total of 16 points. An all-star at Lexington High School, Orf recieved numerous awards for her excellence in both lacrosse and field hockey including being named to the All-Star Field Hockey Team in 1997.

Midfielder Lionetti tallied six goals and two assists during the 2000 season. Against NESCAC rival Williams, Lionetti came up with an important goal during the double overtime 2-1 Tufts victory. Lionetti was also named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-New England West Region Second Team. Throughout her career Lindsay has scored 12 goals and tallied 12 assists for a total of 36 points. Before attending Tufts, Lionetti recieved the Defensive Excellence award in 1997 at Greenwhich Academy in Connecticut.

During the 2000 season, Szajda tallied one assist from the midfield position. She was the second leading scorer on the team as a sophomore in 1999 with 11 points on three goals and six assists. Throughout her career she has scored five goals and six assists for a total of 16 points. Attending Farmington High School in Connecticut, Szajda was part of the 1995 State Championship team.

The 2000 Jumbos ended their season 10-8 overall, 4-5 in the NESCAC. They beat Wesleyan in the first round of the conference playoffs, 2-1 in double overtime, then lost to Bowdoin in the semi-finals. The squad then earned a berth into the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament and made it to the semi-finals against Wesleyan after beating Bates in the first round by a 1-0 margin in penalty strokes. Tufts fell to Wesleyan 1-0 in the semi-finals.
