CHRISTIE, LEROUX NAMED FIELD HOCKEY CAPTAINS

MEDFORD -- The Tufts University Field Hockey Team will be led for the 1999 season by senior co-captains Sarah Christie (Wynnewood, Pa/Loomis Chaffee) and Meredith LeRoux (East Norwich, NY/Oyster Bay).

Christie, a second-year starter, will lead the team on defense. The 5'5" Christie has two career goals and one assist at Tufts and a total of 38 games played. A French and English major, Christie has been on the Dean's List since 1997. At Loomis-Chaffee in Windsor, Conn., Christie was the recipient of the Coaches Award.

LeRoux, a third-year starter, will lead the team as a midfielder. A biology major, LeRoux was not only Second Team All-NESCAC for the 1998 season, but was also a First Team All-American. She has three goals and six assists in her career at Tufts after being an All-County and All-Conference player for Oyster Bay High School in East Norwich, New York.

During the 1998 season, Tufts was 11-4, scoring 28 goals while allowing only 15. The 1998 team was named one of the Top 20 Division III Field Hockey Teams by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association and played in the NCAA Division III Tournament. After five straight winning seasons, Tufts opened this fall with a record thus far of 1-1 scoring four goals and allowing three.
