JUMBOS GAMAL, NOLET ON NSCAA ALL-REGION FIRST TEAM
The Tufts University women's soccer team is one of just three in New
England to place two or more players on the 2009 National Soccer
Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III All-New England
Region First Team.
Senior midfielder Fanna Gamal (Albany, CA) and
defender Sarah Nolet (Los Altos, CA) of each earned NSCAA First
Team honors. Eleven players total were named to the First Team. With
three honorees, Williams College was the only school with more than
Tufts. Middlebury College also had two players recognized.
Gamal and Nolet each moved up to the First Team after being selected
for NSCAA All-New England Third Team accolades last season. Both
were deemed as among the best three players at their positions in
New England this season. They were also All-New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) First Team picks this fall.
Gamal, a center midfielder, is one of the smartest and most
composed players in the league. She finished 2009 with a goal and two assists, with the score coming
in the conference tournament first round against Trinity to give
Tufts a 1-0 lead. Nolet combines outstanding defensive skills with
offensive skills on free kicks and corners.
Tufts earned the fourth seed in the NESCAC Championship Tournament
with a 4-4-1 regular-season record in the league. They advanced to
the conference semi-finals with a 2-1 victory against Trinity in the
first round. The Jumbos' season ended with a 4-2 loss to Williams in
the semi-finals. Tufts was 8-7-1 overall.
