Game Box Score
SOMERVILLE – On a windy afternoon at Kraft Field, Tufts shut out the Babson College Beavers 2-0 for their first win of the season. Led by junior
Martha Furtek's (Falmouth, MA) goal and assist, the Jumbos took the lead early and never looked back.
Babson came into the contest undefeated, but it was winless Tufts who had the upper hand and improved to 1-2-2 on the season. The visitors went home with a 5-1-2 record.
The visiting Beavers moved the ball well early, controlling it deep in the Tufts end, but were held scoreless thanks to several excellent plays by Jumbo midfielder
Kim Harrington (Helena, MT). Around the 10-minute mark, Tufts began to put pressure on the Beavers, and at 14:54 forward
Lauren Fedore (East Lansing, MI) headed the ball into the net off of a beautiful cross from Furtek to put the Jumbos up 1-0.
Tufts continued to put the pressure on, and scored again at 27:40 when Furtek beat the goaltender to push the ball into the net and put the Jumbos on top 2-0.
Coming into the second half, Tufts obviously had control of the game, and continued to move the ball very well. While Babson did have several opportunities from
Sam Bartman (Upton, MA) and Caitlin Cronin (Hanover, MA), they were unable to capitalize. The shutout was the second of the season for the Tufts defense.
Tri-captain keeper Annie Ross (Newton, MA) played an excellent game in goal for the Jumbos, making 10 saves. Freshman
Sam Scarpato (Weston, MA) made eight saves for the Beavers.
