Game Box Score

SOMERVILLE – The Tufts University and Colby College women's soccer teams played to a scoreless draw in 110 minutes of NESCAC action at Kraft Field on Saturday afternoon.

Neither Tufts, which lost most of its leading scorer from last year's NCAA "final four" team to graduation, nor Colby, which returned many of its offensive leaders, could make a mark on attack.

The Jumbos were credited with 20 shots, including 14 in regulation. Colby senior tri-captain Liza Benson (Orchid, FL) made nine saves, but wasn't truly tested on any of them. She did have three saves in the first overtime. Her counterpart Annie Ross (Newton, MA) also earned a shutout with six saves, none in either of the extra periods when Tufts posted a 6-0 shots advantage. The Mules had only eight shots total.

One of the better chances of the game was a drive from the top of the box by Colby sophomore Veronica Barila (Stow, MA) in the second half that Ross had to leave her feet to grab. Later on, Benson bumped a shot by Jumbo Joelle Emery (Bedford, NH) over the crossbar for her best save of the game.

Martha Furtek's (East Falmouth, MA) four shots on goal led Tufts, while two shots apiece by Libba Cox (Guilford, CT) and Laura Williamson (Manchester, CT) paced Colby.

Colby, who upset Tufts in the season opener 2-0 in Maine last season, finished with a 6-2 margin in corner kicks. The game was the first 0-0 tie at Kraft since Tufts and Trinity went scoreless on October 16, 1993.
